After all, at the end of the year, it was a new product of projector manufacturers. Whether it was the N -series that JVC just launched or the BenQ W11000H and X12000H I have been using before, the SIM2 Nero4 I was watching now is a very interesting machine.

But why do I go to try OHD588? The main reason is that I like the mid -to -high -end projector products, but these products cannot solve my fans. Some people want to watch 4K pictures in the living room where they are not too wide. The problem.

Most of the living rooms are four meters, and often the internal empty is only 3.9 meters. With the depth of the projector’s body, the distance you can actually use is only 3 meters 4.

The UHD projector of the 10,000 -dollar class before did not project a 120 -inch large picture about 3.4 meters. Until the OHD588 appeared, the price was 12999 yuan, and it was finally a solution.

Under the strong requirements of fans, trying the Olympic UHD588 has become a thing that must be done.

The official website did not clearly point out what color wheels used in the machine, and after asking the Olympic Charter Factory, the response was to use the RGBWRGBW color wheel. Compared to the commonly used RGBRGB color wheel, he added W white, which will increase the brightness.


This is very abstract. Let me first popularize how the color of the DLP projector is obtained.

The color of the single -chip DLP projector is rotated by the color wheel at high speed, deceiving the eyes, and “plating” the color. The color wheel looks like this.

The early color theory was only three or four sections, only three times. Therefore, the rainbow of DLP is very serious at the time.

The current DLP home projector is at least a six -stage color wheel, most of which are 5 times and 6 times.

As can be seen from the above figure, the color wheel is a circular shape, so when the six -stage RGBRGB is added, two sections of W white, then it will definitely take up the original area of ​​RGBRGB. In this way, the color performance will definitely decline, but the advantage is that it can enhance the brightness of the projection screen.

And why UHD588 uses this color wheel is because it is a machine that is located in the living room. For customer users, they generally do not have as good shing conditions as independent audiovisual rooms, and the walls are mainly white or light. At this time, the projector itself has a high brightness output, which is very important.

UHD588 can make the brightness high in a machine that is not too large in the case of a large revolutionary technology, and it is estimated that the RGBWRGBW color wheel is also the only choice.

What I want to do is, I want to test the data to tell you how much will the brightness drop after this machine is debugged? Then, whether you choose a higher brightness, or more accurate white balance and color temperature consistency.

Well, I will use the data to light up after this, and I will light up the machine first.


Everyone knows that when I test the projector, I like to frame the machine behind my sofa. But this machine is not enough -because his distance is too short, so I have to put him in front of the sofa.


Indeed, the manufacturer does not talk nonsense, and it can complete a large 120 -inch picture in 3.3 meters.


At the same time, the projection elevation of this machine is relatively large, so if it is cast, it can only be placed in a relatively low position. So, I can only find something to put it up.

I posted this picture in the circle of friends before. Many people asked me if the shock absorption pad below the UHD588 was helpful to the picture. I answered everyone uniformly here. I did n’t help. I just used what to use, but I needed to increase the height with a shock -absorbing pad.

Under the SDR state, the UHD588 provides a total of six built -in screen modes. Among them, HDR SIM is a unique model that simulates the HDR view in SDR state. And users are the model that adjusts themselves.

The old rules, what I want to do is to preview these models, tell everyone their respective picture characteristics, and then choose a relatively accurate start debugging.

Theater mode


The brightness curve and the target value coincide perfectly, and the white balance is also OK.

HDR SIM mode


The brightness of this model is significantly improved. The blue balance is pulled up, and as the brightness increases, the color gamut naturally reduces it.

Simply put, this mode is brighter than the theater mode and a little lighter color.

Gaming mode


The white balance of the game mode is accurate than the previous two, but the brightness curve is higher than the standard curve in the dark. This shows that in this mode, compared to a deeper black position, it emphasizes the dark level. This is indeed good for playing games.

Standard mode

The characteristics of this mode are a little brighter than the theater mode.

Brightness mode


The characteristics of this model are that the color temperature is much higher, and the accuracy of the color is not important. This mode is to be bright.

This is generally used to make the picture as clear as possible in the case of poor shielding.


User mode

Compared to the theater mode, the default value of the user mode that completely allows users to adjust itself is the model I chose to use in the end.

Next, let’s look at the default white balance of the machine. Many people know that the standard color temperature of the movie is D65, so choosing 6500K in the projector thinks it is okay.


But in fact, how much the projector is set does not mean that you will actually get this color temperature.

For example, when the color temperature is set to D65 in UHD588, the measured measurement is only 6024. Looking at the right chart, it is obviously a little distance from the horizontal line.

At this time, I chose D75, the measured color temperature was 6866K, which was obviously closer to D65 just before.


Next, we have to debug the white balance and let him reach the color temperature of 6500K completely.


After the RGB and RGB offset, the white balance curve of the UHD588 is perfect.

But in fact, this debugging will reduce the brightness of the projector.

UHD588 has 34.1FL (the screen is 120 inches, 1.4 gain punching through the screen), and the screen brightness value is 116.74cd/m2.

But everyone note that the RGB on the right side of the figure above is not completely overlapped. This is that the contrast setting is too high, causing the color temperature consistency to have problems.

During debugging, the UHD588 and menu are as uncomfortable as his predecessor UHD566 -this menu that is the same as Austrian laser TV occupies a large area on the left. Native

In fact, if you want to let UHD588 release very obvious pictures, then his contrast value will be set higher. After the setting is too high, first of all, the color of the white picture will be biased because the color temperature consistency occurs. Secondly, there will be no level of highlights, lighting into a piece.


At the same time, the RGB is completely overlapped, and the color temperature consistency problem is solved


To reduce the contrast, it can solve the two problems mentioned earlier, but note that the test screen above the picture above, the previous 34FL dropped to only 21.5FL, that is, the brightness of the picture dropped by one -third.


In fact, no matter how bright any 10,000 -dollar projector is nominated, the brightness has decreased significantly after the ISF process debugging. This is why everyone watched the 10,000 ~ 3,000 lumens of 10,000 to 3,000, while the machines of 50,000 to 100,000 often only bid for 2000 ~ 2500.

This is because the high -end machine has less losses than the positive posterior, and some high -end machines are almost lost. The low -grade machine loss is relatively large, so if you go to test and correct the screen, high -grade high -end machines with low brightness are often brighter than low -grade machines with high standard brightness.


The above figure is the measured brightness value in the three GAMMA mode. Relatively speaking, Gamma 2.4 will get a better picture black, and in fact, the DLP projector of the 0.47 -inch chip is inevitable, so I recommend setting up Gamma 2.4.

Of course, if you buy UHD588, how can you set your own eyes to look at it -because our environment is different, the shading environment in my home is relatively good, and the walls are gray. Which value is set under ordinary white living room, it is best to try it yourself.

UHD588 provides a high -level color management system that can adjust the six base colors. But many low -end projectors, I suggest not to correct the color, there are two reasons:

First, the reasons for the grade of the machine itself, just adjust it by yourself, the seats cannot be within the standard point.

Second, the most outer test seat marker of the color triangle went to the standard point, but the internal was all chaotic.

Before debugging


Before debugging, you can see the brightness value of all colors, which is lower than the standard value, which shows that the color brightness of this projector is a little bit more like a chance of 10,000 yuan I tried before. This has a certain relationship with his use of RGBWRGBW. W increases the white brightness but occupy the area of ​​RGB.

The problem in the debugging occurs. Several colors you adjust part of the value to the highest +50 or -50, which is still far from the target value. The debug range is relatively narrow.

After debugging

No matter how to debug, the color brightness cannot be lifted.

What I can do is to keep the color tone too biased. But the problem is that if you pull the color with too much color, for example, everyone looks at the green falling point of the picture above. Although it will be closer to the middle after debugging, the color gamut is largely reduced.

At this time, if you compare all the colors before and after debugging, you will obviously find that it is better to before debugging.

This is after the debugging I mentioned before, the outer seat punctuation looks okay and the internal is completely chaotic.

Therefore, for the low -cost home theater projector, my point of view is that if the manufacturer does not propagate the color of the projector is very accurate or very good (maybe it is perfectly covered with REC709) To adjust their CMS system.


For UHD588, this matter is easier -it is a better choice to set the default color settings of this machine.
